Li joined Bloomberg in 2017 as a Market Specialist where he is responsible for Charts, Technical Analysis & Data Visualization. His recent market insights are frequently featured on Bloomberg “Functions For the Market” (FFM<GO>), Bloomberg News and Bloomberg Chartbooks.
His January 2018 article “Powerful Cycles Cloud Emerging Market Rally as 2011 High Passed” forecasted a multi-year bearish cycle, while another article in April 2020 “Worst Looks Over for Oil If You Are Brave Enough to Trust Charts” captured the low of crude oil price preceding a more than 300% rise within three months. Most recently his July article “VIX Flags Bigger Stock Swings As Havens Favor Gold, Bitcoin” highlighted increasing risk in stock market.
Li holds both Chartered Market Technician® (CMT) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst® (CAIA) designations. He graduated from University of Hong Kong with a master’s degree in computer science. His master thesis applied machine learning algorithms in the field of stock market prediction.
Prior to joining Bloomberg, Li was a technical analyst providing quantitative research and trade ideas to hedge fund and private banking clients.
